At 2:30 pm on May 28th, the finals of the First English Competition of Hunan Health "Embracing the World",sponsored by the International Exchange Center of Hunan Provincial Health Commission, was held in the Furong Hall of Hunan Hotel. Yang Li, a doctor from the RICU of our hospital, won the third prize.
At 8:30 in the morning, 40 players began to compete in the semifinals, vying for 14 places in the finals. It is a gathering of master hand who shows their respective abilities. Prior to semifinals, Yang Li successfully passed the preliminary and re-examinations, representing our hospital to competing with other players from other hospitals in Hunan. On May 26, Yang Li went to Changsha to participate in training camps with all the shortlisted contestants. During the two-day training camp, the players communicated frankly, actively studied, and made a spurt for the competition.
A total of 10 speech topics were prepared for the candidates, and each person decided his or her speech title based on the draw before the contest. Yang Li picked No. 6 question: Epidemiological investigation and emergency treatment of public health emergencies. In the 5-minute speech, Yang Li shared her views and opinions using our hospital's prevention and control work during the Covid-19 pandemic as an example.
After the competition, Zhu Yimin, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Health Commission and member of the party group, said, “ As English plays as a basic tool for communication between China and the world, we need to learn it every day. Learning English help ourselves develop an extraordinary temperament and improve our expressive skills. At the same time, the trend of ‘hospital internationalization' is becoming more and more obvious, the promotion of English use in health system can not only improve professionals’ career development but also move closer to ‘discipline internationalization'."
In the end, Gao Kelei from Xiangya Hospital of Central South University won the championship.
