In response to the call of the Chinese Government, in accordance with the "Notice of the Medical Administration Department of Hunan Provincial Health Commission on Printing and Distributing the Work Plan for the Construction of Trauma Centers in Hunan Province in 2020", and led by Xiangtan Central Hospital, Xiangtan Trauma Rescue & Treatment Association was established on January 7th, 2020 under the careful guidance of the Provincial Health Commission, the Provincial Trauma Rescue & Treatment Association and with full support from the municipal government and the Municipal Health Commission, in a hope to improve the level of trauma treatment in our city, reduce the mortality and disability rate of severe trauma and further promote the construction of the trauma system.

Li Shizhong, Deputy Director of the Medical Administration Department of the Hunan Provincial Health Commission, Li Xiangmin, Director of the emergency department of Xiangya Hospital, Liu Xiangfeng, Deputy Director of the trauma center of the Second Xiangya Hospital, Chen Jianan, Deputy Director of the Municipal Health Commission, Long Heqing, Director of the Medical Administration Department of the Xiangtan Health Commission, Zeng Jianping, Vice Chairman of the Xiangtan CPPCC and President of the Xiangtan Central Hospital, Xia Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xiangtan Central Hospital and Director of the Trauma Center, Li Shaojie, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the Xiangtan Central Hospital, and other more than 120 representatives from 23 hospitals and medical institutions in Xiangtan area attended the inaugural meeting.

In the meeting, it was announced that the Xiangtan Central Hospital is the director institution of the association, 8 institutions including the Xiangtan Medical Emergency Rescue Command Center and the Xiangtan First People's Hospital are deputy director members, and 15 institutions including the Xiangtan Second People's Hospital are committee members. There are 5 working groups under the association, which are responsible for comprehensive information, quality control inspection, liaison evaluation, coordinated development, and training exercises respectively.

Zeng Jianping delivered a speech on behalf of the affiliated institutions and the director institution of the association. He said that since the trauma center of the Central Hospital has been in operation for 4 months, 1,133 emergency operations have been carried out, 762 patients were rescued, and 10,825 referrals were directed, which maximized the trauma treatment process, shortened the early treatment time, and improved the success rate of traumatic critical illness.
The establishment of the Xiangtan Trauma Rescue & Treatment Association is a new start for the city’s trauma treatment system. It will further enhance quality medical services, provide patients with a medical model of "high-quality, high-efficiency, low-consumption, satisfaction, and rest-assured", and build a fast, efficient, and fully-covered medical treatment system characterized with "on-site accurate assessment, practicable injury classification, strengthened reasonable treatment, and standardized referrals”.
In the future, Xiangtan Central Hospital will learn from the past experience in emergency trauma treatment and treatment of critically ill patients, and cooperate with member institutions to effectively transform the development achievements of the association and related medical fields into the health, well-being and sense of gain for the people of the city.
